A classic medieval walled town, packed with historic properties, Conwy is at the head of the stunning Conwy Valley and gateway to the Snowdonia National Park.
Dominated by its mighty castle, the town is nestled within the three quarter mile network of the castle walls, with no less than 22 towers guarding the town. The mighty fortress and town have remained remarkably intact over the years, with narrow streets and historic properties dotted throughout.
Conwy’s two oldest residential buildings, Plas Mawr and Aberconwy House are wonderfully preserved. The former is a medieval merchant’s house dating from the 14th century, and though an audio-visual presentation gives a unique insight into life in medieval Conwy. The latter is one of Britain’s best preserved Elizabethan houses famous for its quality and quantity of original plasterwork decoration.
The Conwy Valley stretches from the foothills of Snowdon to the coast and is filled with fertile pastures, gorges and waterfalls. It is a fantastic area for walking. The high peaks of the Snowdonia National Park dominate the skyline over Conwy, making the town a great base for exploring the great countryside nearby.
