You know that nothing makes a trip worthwhile more than a healthy dose of culture. It may be why you chose to come to Britain in the first place, aware that the Brits know how to mix up the high with the low, the visual with the audio, the museum with the street.

You might start by checking off those national monuments: the British Museum and National Gallery in London; the castle in Edinburgh; the brilliant collection at The Lowry in Manchester and the Millennium Centre in Cardiff.

From there you'll go for your specialist interest – the Costume Department of the V&A in London, modern city culture at Urbis Manchester... whatever you're into, there's a museum dedicated to it.

Then you might round off your day by getting into Manchester's vibrant music scene, with a play in the West End, or a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon to see the best Shakespeare in the world.
